10 new aircraft (Su-27SM3 and Su-30M2) that arrived at the Krimsk airbase have began their flights. On the outside, the main difference between these aircraft and regular Su-27’s are the aeriel refueling probes, which will greatly increase their flight time. On the inside, however, they are totally different aircraft. All systems are fully digitized. These aircraft maintain contact via satellite and are able to operate day and night and in all weather conditions. The MOD announced that new weapon systems will be released soon for these aircraft, making these jets, often considered the best in their class, even more lethal. The new weapons will make these proven aircraft nearly unstoppable. The tests are going smoothly; the pilots had been trained to the point of automation. The pilots train in a special “electronic cockpit” system that mimics the pilot’s cabin. These aircraft are multi-role fighters: while before they could only handle aeriel targets, they can now engage ground targets, as well, without getting within range of the target’s radar. The Krimsk airbase is also getting upgraded as Russia’s air-force expands.
